But the arms splinter outward into writhing shadow-tendrils, coiling appendages that end in grasping clawed hands — echoes of victims, hunger made manifest. Below, those tendrils spiral and twist around a ruined stone plinth, dragging themselves upward as though the earth itself is trying to reclaim him.
