The forest does not warn you. It simply opens its eyes.
The Barkette exists at the boundary between dream and root — a living enigma of the Fey wilds that defies clean categorisation. Part creature, part woodland, it hunkers low on a throne of tangled roots and ancient stone, its bark-layered hide bristling with jagged ridges like a forest after a storm. A crown of succulent blossoms erupts from its shoulders and back, incongruously delicate against the gnashing, shadow-dark maw that dominates its face. Clawed hands press into the mossy earth. Pine trees sprout around it like worshippers. The whole scene pulses with the quiet menace of a forest that has decided to fight back.
Whether born from the dreams of a forgotten Arch Druid or conjured by the Fey's own restless imagination, the Barkette is no mindless beast. It is a guardian, a gatekeeper, and — for the wrong traveller — a predator. Measuring 148mm tall and 130mm wide on a 100mm base, this is a centrepiece model in every sense: large enough to command a table, detailed enough to reward every hour of your brushwork.
For Dungeon Masters, this model is an instant encounter anchor. Place it at the heart of a corrupted Fey crossing, as the warped guardian of a druidic sanctum, or as the territorial sentinel of a forest the party should have stayed out of. For players, it works beautifully as a Circle of Spores Druid's summoned beast, a Beast Master's legendary companion, or the Wild Shape form of a druid who has spent too long in the Fey.
-The party follows the pillar of light deep into the treeline — and the ground shifts beneath them as the Barkette rises from the moss, indistinguishable from the forest floor until this very moment.
-A logging company has gone silent. The last message mentioned something in the canopy — watching. The party arrives to find bark-crushed wagons and a trail leading toward the Four Pillars.
-The druid NPC the party trusted has been communing with something they were not meant to meet. In the clearing, patient and ancient, the Barkette waits.
-Mid-negotiation with a Fey noble, the lights dim and the doors creak open — the noble's "pet" has decided the party smells like outsiders.
